Max Landis Will Work Writing Powers on 'Chronicle 2'

After all, what's a superhero origin story without a follow-up adventure?

Max Landis has officially signed on to write a sequel to "Chronicle," the low-budget sci-fi action film that's made over $100 million in worldwide box office since its release in early February, according to Deadline.

Landis wrote the original film, which follows three high school friends who gain superpowers after they come in contact with an unidentified object; after initially indulging in tricks and pranks, they soon grapple with the moral responsibilities that come with such abilities and must each ask themselves the ultimate question: Are you going to be a Good Guy or a Bad Guy?

The sequel's plot hasn't been revealed yet, nor is there any word on whether Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan will be reprising their original roles. We'd love it if Josh Trank would return to direct, but he might be too busy with that "Venom" movie.

Max Landis, the son of "An American Werewolf in London" director John Landis, is building a pretty impressive resume as a screenwriter. He wrote the highly amusing "Masters of Horror" episode, "Deer Woman" (which his dad directed), as well as the "Fear Itself" episode, "Something With Bite" (which was about, of course, werewolves). He made a splash on the Internet recently with his short film, "The Death and Life of Superman," and is set to write "Good Time Gang," an action comedy starring Jonah Hill and Mark Wahlberg.

News of another "Chronicle" comes hot on the heels of word that another recent "found footage" kind of movie, "Project X," will also be getting a sequel. Micro-budget films are definitely looking like the new franchise-starters!
